The other day, I had this nagging discomfort in my eye. It felt like something was stuck in my eye, but I couldn’t quite tell what it was. It felt so uncomfortable. I rubbed and blinked, trying to shake it off, but the irritation lingered for hours. It just won’t go away.
Eventually, I went to the mirror to take a proper look—and there it was: a single strand of eyelash, quietly causing all that trouble.
The moment I removed it, relief came instantly. Right there, God whispered a lesson to me.
How many times do we carry discomfort in our spirits because of something small we’ve left unchecked? Perhaps it’s a lingering grudge, a quiet resentment, a small compromise, unconfessed sins or a prayer we’ve been avoiding.
It could be unforgiveness tucked away in the corners of our hearts. We may try to brush them aside, ignore the discomfort, or distract ourselves—but the irritation won’t go until we pause, reflect, and let the Holy Spirit search us.
They seem like “nothing much” at first, but they blur our peace and irritate our souls.
Sometimes, it’s the smallest things that disrupt our peace.
Psalm 139:23-24 (KJV) says,
“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
All it takes is a quiet moment in front of the mirror of God’s Word for us to see what’s out of place—and the instant we let Him deal with it, clarity and peace return.
Don’t ignore the nudge. Don’t settle for the discomfort. Today, I encourage you to pause and ask the Holy Spirit to show you anything small but significant that may be disrupting your peace.
Often, clarity and relief come the moment we allow Him to reveal and remove it.
Peace is often one prayer away.
