This morning, my son had just finished dressing himself after his bath when I knelt down to straighten the collar of his shirt. As I looked into his wide, curious eyes — the way I often do — he suddenly asked,
“Mommy, do you love my eyes?”
“Oh yes,” I said with a smile. “Yes, I love your eyes.”
Without missing a beat, he replied, “Yes, because Jesus made it. And I love it.”
That simple exchange got me thinking. In that moment, sunlight streamed through the window, lighting up his face, and I realized how often we overlook the miracle of something so “ordinary” — eyes that see, blink, focus, adjust — as if it’s just another default feature of life.
The Bible tells us we are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14). Every detail of our bodies is intentional, crafted by the Master Artist — nothing random, nothing accidental. “God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good” (Genesis 1:31).
It’s not just our eyes. It’s the hands that hold and comfort, the feet that carry us to where we’re needed, the heartbeat we never command to beat, the lungs that draw in oxygen without a single reminder.
And then there’s the world we live in — the deep reds of scarlet, the golden glow of autumn leaves, the clean blue of a summer sky, the breathtaking arc of a rainbow after rain. Colors like crimson and scarlet, mentioned in Scripture, are not just pigments but evidence of God’s design choices. “He hath made every thing beautiful in his time” (Ecclesiastes 3:11).
As someone who notices the details, I’ve often been struck by God’s artistry. A while back, I wrote about a tiny hole in my ear that I was born with. I never paid much attention to it until people started pointing it out. To me, it’s yet another mark of God’s intentional craftsmanship — a pleasant reminder that He is a God of detail, even in the quirks and “imperfections” we carry.
From galaxies that stretch beyond our comprehension to the delicate veins on a leaf, His art is never rushed. Every brushstroke is deliberate. Every element has purpose.
Sometimes it takes the words of a child to remind us to look again and be grateful.
So today, I’m thanking God not only for my eyes but for the beauty and detail He’s poured into all of creation — seen and unseen.
Pause for a moment today and thank God for one “ordinary” thing you’ve never thought to appreciate before. You might be surprised at how extraordinary it really is.
