Today I stayed home under the weather. Fever, sore throat, weakness — the kind that leaves you bundled up in bed and grateful that mum is around to help with the kids. It wasn’t how I pictured my Sunday, but God had another kind of reminder waiting for me.
In the middle of my fever, my two-year-old daughter kept coming to check on me. Over and over again, she’d ask, “Mummy, how are you feeling?” When I said, “Not so good,” she’d whisper a prayer. “Mummy, I prayed for you. Are you feeling better now?” She would come back again and again with the same cycle of concern, prayer, and expectation.
At one point, she noticed my body was hot from the fever. She ran off and brought the wrapper I occasionally use to carry her baby sister on my back, wrapping it around me like a blanket. Then she kissed my forehead and said, “I love you, Mummy.” Her little sister tried to copy her — tiny kisses on my head, a small hand to my face. My older son was in and out, playing, yet checking in every so often with, “Mummy, are you okay?”
And while the children were ministering in their own little ways, my mum was the anchor of the day — giving me room to truly rest, holding things together so I could recover. My husband too, steady as always, ensuring I had the support I needed.
It was such a simple scene, yet it overwhelmed me. I found myself asking, “Lord, what did I ever do to be surrounded by so much love?” Truth is, I don’t have all the answers. But what I saw in that moment was the purest form of care: prayer, touch, presence, and support.
It reminded me of how God Himself deals with us. When we are weak, He doesn’t just watch from afar. He covers us, whispers over us, holds us close. Sometimes, He even uses the smallest voices in our lives to remind us of His own.
I may not have gone to church in person today, but I felt church at home — in the form of a little girl who kept vigil by my side, a little boy who checked in, a baby learning to love by imitation, a mother who made room for my rest, and a husband who stood by me. And honestly, that was sermon enough.
“Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.” — Jeremiah 31:3 (KJV)
My prayer for you is that you feel the everlasting love of God wrapping around you today and always, in ways big and small, through the people He has placed in your life.
