My Book Summaries

For as long as I can remember, I have always had a flair for writing: I wrote everything from short letters to my close family members, to descriptives and narratives of occurrences that never happened. Most of these never saw the light of day…lol. This triggered in me a desire to pull my thoughts together in one complete, impactful piece and I still dream about that till date.

One of my greatest writing influences which I vividly recall is a particular column in the Guardian newspaper’s Life magazine. The column was titled “The convenience”. The writer shared his/her experiences visiting different conveniences in banks, airports, malls, companies, eateries, and other public places in Nigeria. To my young, impressionable mind, it was a highly creative and intriguing piece – I mean, who reads meaning to a seemingly ordinary toilet visit? I looked forward to this piece every week, and it made me better appreciate the uniqueness of each everyday experience. I believe that each new day and each new activity is a worthwhile experience that should be treasured, savoured and shared: that is one of the reasons why I run this platform.

Apart from writing, I also enjoyed reading as a child. The moment my mum pointed out to me that “readers are leaders”, that sealed it for me. My favourite books to read are inspirational/motivational books. Admittedly, in terms of my reading habits, I am quite promiscuous: it is very typical of me to read several books at a time and never complete any of them…lol. So, when I find a book that engages me enough to read it from cover to cover, it is a massive achievement for me. Using this platform, I hope to share highlights of books which I have read that have positively impacted on me, and I firmly believe that you would find these of great interest and benefit to you.
