Waiting on God

Have you ever been in a waiting room? Or perhaps, you have had to wait in a queue for some time before someone attended to you? If yes, you would realize how challenging and tiring it is to be in such a situation.

Humans are naturally very impatient and do not like to wait for anything. Waiting periods always seem to last forever! They are filled with uncertainties and, on many occasions, can feel like one’s life has ended abruptly – with everything at a standstill.

The word of God provides us with an assurance that we can hold on to during such uncertain times:

“Hast thou not known? Hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: but they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.(‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭40:28-31‬ ‭KJV‬‬)

Eagles are fascinating creatures. They fly very high in the sky. They also have very sharp vision and intuition. They do not run from the storms; instead, they embrace storms as an opportunity to fly even higher. They take advantage of the circumstances in high winds and soar higher with outstretched wings. God promises us that if we depend on Him, like the Eagle, we will flourish during hard times.

Waiting on God is never an easy thing to do: it requires patience, humility, complete surrender, and consecration.

God desires to give us the wisdom, understanding and strength to live, but we need to be patient enough to receive these from Him. His wisdom surpasses our human comprehension. Those who are wise in their own eyes and try to figure things out themselves utterly fail because human strategies are not fool-proof.

We tend to become exhausted when we rely solely on our own abilities. However, we need a profound source of strength to power through those challenging times. The referenced verses buttress what relying on God as our source means:

➡️ Waiting on God indicates that we realize how helpless we are without God’s help.

➡️ Waiting on God entails trusting God completely, without any iota of doubt and fear.

➡️ Waiting on God reveals an inherent understanding that though God might not take the obstacle out of our way when we expect him to, He supplies the grace to cross over the hurdles on our path.

We may get tired of waiting for the things we want, but God is never tired of giving. Those in their prime years (even with perfect health) can get exhausted, but that’s not the case with God. He has an unending store of strength from which He freely gives. Can you think of how inexhaustible the oceans are? God’s strength reserve is much more abundant than that! If only we could harness this untapped source of strength today!

Are you waiting on God for certain things? Receive grace to trust Him through the process.
